Workshop
New Energy IoT Scenarios with Open Standards
Cooperation between IEC IS 14543-4-300 Series (AIF with ECHONET Lite) and SRD 63443 (ERAB)
Wednesday, October 28
16:00-18:00, Room 504
Abstract
This workshop discusses the new trends in energy IoT to ensure services with trust over open standards. The IEC has proposed two new standards to portray this new trend. IEC SRD 63443-1 proposes new service scenarios for Energy IoT which highlight data exchange between a smart meter and the system at customer premises configured by distributed energy resources (DERs) with open standards. The ISO/IEC 14543-4-300 series defines an application-layer protocol necessary for ensuring interoperability among the products of various manufacturers regarding communications between home appliances and their controllers.
The IEEE announced that ECHONET Lite would be recognized as an IEEE Milestone four months after the IEC published the Energy Resource Aggregation Business (ERAB) as the new standard which highlights data exchange among customer premises, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), and power meters with open interfaces, such as IEC IS 14543-4-3 (ECHONET Lite).
This discussion is in accordance with cooperation at the Japan-EU Cyber dialogue which addresses multinational cooperation about cyber and physical system security.

"Standard which Ensures Trustworthy DR Value by Metering"
IEC SRD 63443:2026 proposes business use cases for the energy aggregation business that emerged from data convergence between a smart meter at the PCC and DERs. -

"Beyond Device IDs: Hardware-Backed Identities for Trustworthy ECHONET Lite Ecosystems"
Smart homes and residential energy systems require more than device identifiers; they require trustworthy device identities that bind hardware, firmware, configuration, and expected behaviour. This talk explains how hardware-backed roots of trust, including TPMs, the TCG Device Identifier Composition Engine (DICE), TEEs such as Arm TrustZone-M/A, and emerging RISC-V/OpenTitan approaches, can make ECHONET Lite deployments verifiable in practice. Key topics include secure onboarding, remote attestation, and a roadmap for deployable and interoperable security profiles. -

"Redispatch 3.0: An ERAB Use Case in Germany"
IEC 63443 brings a paradigm shift in the operation and security of Renewable Generation and Demand Response. The ERAB paradigm is already in operation in Europe, specifically in Germany, with Redispatch. The latter is planned for its third iteration, in which metering data from the PCC will be used to intelligently provide the German grid with ancillary services. In this sense, ERAB is similar to the German Controllable Load System and Advanced Metering Infrastructure. In this talk, I will explain the commonalities and differences between the German AMI and CLS systems, with a view towards Redispatch 3.0, focusing on their cybersecurity and cyber resiliency. -
